Place Description
The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the Touristic region of Monteverde, on the Caribbean slope of the Continental Division, at an average height of 1600 masl (5 249 ft); This Reserve is bathed by the trade winds from the north creating a cloud system that is present almost all year around, promoting the development of an exuberant diversity of plants that give life to an evergreen Magical Forest.
We have 12.5 km (7.76 Milles) of route, distributed in 5 trails along with a Platform and an observation tower 12 meters high, which allow us to appreciate the cloud forest, as well as panoramic views of the Guanacaste Mountain Range where 4 Volcanoes stand out: Arenal, Tenorio, Miravalles, Rincón de la Vieja, as well as other points of interest such as Cerro Chato, Cerro Pelado, the Arenal Reservoir and the Gulf of Nicoya.
It should be noted that we have an accessible path for people with different physical capacities, which can be covered in a wheelchair or with baby cars, it has approximately 500 circular meters, allowing you to enjoy the cloud forest, bird watching and connected to the Orchid garden area and main infrastructure.
We also offer guided walks, self-guided walks, educational programs and citizen science, in addition to specialized-themed tours, a restaurant area, a souvenir, and a large parking lot.
With your visit, you are collaborating with a community project that is manage by the Administrative Board of the Professional Technical College of Santa Elena, and has been operating since March 1992.
